I’d like to welcome you to the website for Lorenzo Manor School.  At Lorenzo Manor, we believe that all students want to learn and that parents want the best education for their children.  The staff of Lorenzo Manor School is one that strives for excellence in all aspects of education: academic, behavioral and social.

I’d like to take a moment to talk about school pride. Being new to the school this year, I was impressed at the dedication that staff, students and families have at Lorenzo Manor.  I have met so many wonderful people already and have felt welcomed to the community.  The school has a wonderful garden, great programs, and big smiles on the faces of our children.   I recently met someone who has lived in the neighborhood for over 40 years.  Her children went to Lorenzo Manor when they were younger.  Despite her children now being grown, she still considers Lorenzo Manor “her school”, and she picks up trash regularly around the school because she has pride in the school and the neighborhood.  If we could all have that type of pride and care for the school, imagine what a place this could be! 

Students, please take pride in YOUR school:  Pick up trash when you see it, show care for others, and help out whenever you can.  Families, get involved:  Join PTA, SELAC or other councils, volunteer when you can, get to know your child’s teachers, and provide a positive learning environment at home.

Me gustaría darle la bienvenida a la Escuela Lorenzo Manor. Aquí, todos creemos que los estudiantes quieren aprender y que los padres desean la mejor educación para sus hijos. El personal de la escuela Lorenzo Manor se esfuerza por alcanzar la excelencia en todos los aspectos educativos: ya sea académico, de comportamiento y social.

Deseo aprovechar este momento para hablarles sobre el orgullo escolar. Me impresionó, siendo nuevo en la escuela este año, la dedicación que el personal, estudiantes y familias demuestran en Lorenzo Manor. Ya he conocido tanta gente, todos maravillosos, y he sido bien recibido. La escuela tiene un jardín maravilloso, buenos programas y enormes sonrisas en los rostros de sus niños. Recientemente conocí una persona que lleva más de 40 años viviendo en este vecindario. Sus niños asistieron a Lorenzo Manor cuando eran pequeños. A pesar de que ahora son adultos, ella aún considera que Lorenzo Manor es “su escuela”, todos los días recoge la basura alrededor de la escuela por el orgullo que ella siente hacia la escuela y el vecindario. Si todos pudiésemos sentir ese tipo de orgullo y cuidado por la escuela, ¡imagínense el tipo de escuela que podríamos tener!

Exhorto a los estudiantes a que por favor, sientan orgullo por SU escuela: Recojan la basura cuando la miren, velen el uno por el otro, ayuden siempre que puedan. A las familias les pido que se integren: Afíliense a la PTA, al SELAC y demás consejos, o sirvan como voluntarios cuando puedan, lleguen a conocer a los maestros de sus niños, y proporcionen un ambiente educativo positivo en su hogar.

A reminder to parents that we have our Schoolwide assembly the first Wednesday of each month, so we invite you to come and join us on the playground at the start of school on these days. Also, our parent bulletin and calendar is sent home with students monthly, usually on the third Thursday of the month to keep you updated of events and important information. 

We believe strongly that parents are a child’s first teacher, and what you do at home sets the tone for how a child performs at school.  Please provide opportunities for your child to practice skills at home as well as a time and place for them do homework.  Plus, have your child read every night…it is critical to their reading success.  We also invite you to visit our school often and to volunteer to help when you can.

Fundraisers:  Currently, we have partnered with 2 businesses in our community to establish fundraising sources for the school. We encourage you to join in by frequent these businesses on as events occur. Your participation in these helps contribute funds for school programs including the Library, assemblies, and field trips:

Papa Murphy’s Pizza:  Papa Murphy’s Pizza in Greenhouse Marketplace (San Leandro) holds monthly fundraisers on the 2^nd Tuesday of each month, from 11 am – 8 pm.   20% of purchases on these days is donated to the school.   Last year, this raised several hundred dollars for our school.  Papa Murphy's also provides weekly incentives for rewarding positive behavior for students at our school, giving free items to weekly winners.  Thank you for supporting them as a member of our community.

Oakland As:  At our Open House on March 27th, we will be selling tickets for an upcoming Oakland A's Game.  This includes for the April 27th game, when it will be Lorenzo Manor Elementary School Day at the A's!.  A portion of the proceeds will go towards Par Course and reading books.  Cash only will be accepted.  For more information, look for the flyer distributed or contact Ms. Melvin at lmelvin@slzusd.org
