LORENZO MANOR SCHOOL PARENT BULLETIN #10 -June 10, 2009

Wise Choice for Success: You’re Amazing! Keep Making Wise Choices

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

What a year it has been!  At the end of May we enjoyed our Spring Concert and our PTA’s Flea Market/Bake Sale/Recycle Drive. Special events in June were: Yearbook signing party, Flag Ceremony, and Field Day.  Our school garden is coming along nicely with many vegetables and flowers.  We brought back our Student Council and started a 4/5 basketball team. Students and teachers have worked very hard; we have all learned together and appreciate our parents’ support in this effort.  We have had such an amazing year!

Tomorrow is the last day of school for this year. Report cards will be given to our students to take home. We will miss seeing our students but know that learning will continue over the summer. Parents will continue to encourage our students to read, write and use real life math.  Some of us will be able to take our children to the park or explore the greater Bay Area.  Whatever you do, enjoy your family time.

The first day of school for 2009/10 school year will be August 24.  Again, please plan your vacation and travel plans so that your student is present when school begins again on August 24.   When we return we will miss many members of our Lorenzo Manor family. Please join me in wishing them the best in the future. They will be greatly missed by us:  Ms. Mosier, Ms. Ma, Mrs. Dodd, Ms. Way, Ms. Ruby, Ms. Bullock, Mr. Pangrazio, Ms. Luk, Mrs. Alaniz-Munoz, Mrs. LuQue, and Mr. Mendenhall.  Stan, our custodian and Maria, our office assistant are retiring. Mrs. Alvarez will return to the classroom.

We appreciate and encourage help from parent volunteers in the classroom and/or in the office. We are looking for volunteers to help out in our computer lab with our Headsprout program and in our office. If you would like to volunteer, please stop by our office or call 317-5410. If you are interested helping out in the classroom, please contact your child’s teacher next year.

Lunch Period Supervisors Needed: Lorenzo Manor is looking for moms, dads, aunts, uncles and community members who would like to work about 1½ hours a day supervising lunch.  The pay is $8.93 an hour.  For more information contact Ms. Blood-Golden at 317-5410 or stop by the office.

Thank you for getting your children to school every day on time.  Mrs. Camp Ms. Vecchitto’s classes spelled out PERFECT ATTENDANCE; we have one class who spelled it twice this year: Mrs. Schaff’s class. Yeah!

MEDICATIONS - Please remember to pick up your child’s medication from the school office on the last day of school.  We are not permitted to leave medication on campus over the summer.  Medication authorization forms need to be renewed each school year.  Medications not picked up will be discarded on June 16th.

BANK Days – For several years our PTA sponsored a bank savings program for students with Washington Mutual. We checked with Chase Bank and they will no longer be sponsoring the school savings program. If your child has an account, you may want to check the status of the account. Our students’ accounts were with the branch on Hesperian Blvd.

Lost Found – Any items left will be donated to charity on June 12.

From June 16-July 16 Lorenzo Manor will be offering free lunches to children from 10:15-10:30.

SRC – At our May meeting we revised our Code of Conduct/School Handbook for 2009-10 and approved out school’s Safety Plan and School Plan. We have openings for parents to join our SRC next year. Out Site Representative Council (SRC) needs parents to serve.  Please nominate parents or yourself to this decision-making body.  No experience is needed, just an interest in helping to guide our school with your input as a parent.  This group meets approximately one Monday per month from 4:30 – 6:00.  Our first meeting is scheduled for Sept. 21.  If you or someone you know is interested, please fill out and return this application and/or call 317-5400.
